Artist's Statement: This piece was the result of a need to release some frustration and anger I was having with a friendship.  The design shows my struggle in trying to resolve the relationship and my feelings.

As I worked on the design, the phrase - "When one door closes, another door opens." came to mind, so I added the 3-D pieces, shown in the "Detail" picture below, to represent doors.

The finished piece resulted in "One door closing", because I was able to let go of my anger, and unfortunately I had one less friend.  "Another door opened" when my wall hanging was juried into the Savannah College of Art and Design 19th Juried Fine Arts Competition & Exhibition, sponsored by the City of Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs and the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Georgia, May 8 - June 13, 1998.

A second door opened when this piece was selected to be one of 40 pieces in the 1st Annual South Carolina State Museum Juried Traveling Exhibit 1998-1999.

Techniques:
Pieced and quilted by machine.  Margaret Miller's "Strips That Sizzle" piecing technique was used.  The 3-D pieces were double-sided, embedded into the seams, and then tacked down.
