My
friend Jo Ann Amidon challenged me to interpret the "Le Philosophe" oil
on canvas by Jacques Villon. While the colors and mood of Villon's "Le
Philosophe" were not quite my own personal style, I
was pleased with my interpretation.
Techniques: Cutting
out pieces and then fusing them on a muslin background created
this piece. After I had fused the top, I realized that the colors
were too bright, so I muted the colors by overlaying black net on
top of the piece before quilting it. The whole piece was
free-motion machine quilted with black thread.
Materials: Commercial
cotton fabrics and black netting was used. Cotton and mono
filament/nylon threads were used for the machine quilting and
machine embroidery. Polyester batting was also
