Artist Comment/Statement:
Upon learning that someone very special to me has a long-term illness, I worked through my sorrow and roller coaster emotions by creating this piece.  As I cut the fabrics and stitched them together, I kept hearing the phrase of

"Promises to keep, and miles to go before ..."

Techniques:  Pieced, free-motion thread embroidery, and free-motion quilting by machine.  Hand-stitched glass beads and thread embellishment.  The trees on the sky background were created by free-motion embroidery using several colors of rayon, metallic, and variegated cotton threads.  The moon with the trees is a separate piece that is "floating" on the surface of the background, and was attached by hand.

Materials:  Fabrics used were commercial cottons, raw silk, hand-dyed Skydyes cotton, cotton lame, and Japanese cotton printed fabric.  Rayon, cotton, metallic, and monofilament/nylon threads were used for the free-motion machine quilting and embroidery, as well as the machine piecing.  The glass beads were stitched by hand.  Polyester batting was used for the main piece, and fusible fleece was used for the floating moon.
