"She started at sunset and danced under the dark of the New Moon because he played
music that made her happy."
Detail view of the initial design
Techniques: The
background of the top is hand dyed cotton batting. All of the fabrics
in this piece were fused to the batting and then quilted with free-motion
quilting. The sun and new moon were made by crocheting with
blended cotton and metallic threads. The people were rubber-stamped
and painted-by-hand using fabric paint. Fabric paint was also used
around the sun. Glass beads were hand stitched for their hair. The
binding edge was rolled and stitched with an overcast stitch.
Materials: Fabrics
used were cotton batting, commercial cotton fabrics, silver lame, and
raw silk fabrics. Threads used were rayon, cotton, metallic,
and mono filament, nylon threads. Glass beads and fabric
paint were used for embellishments. Polyester batting was used
between the top and the backing.
