We all have our family
circles, our circle of friends, acquaintances and people who
are around us. We
speak of "what goes around, comes around." We "go around in circles". We
have the "circle of life and death". We have many circles
within and without each of us.
Techniques: Pieced
and free-motion quilted by machine. The circle embellishments
were created by crocheting, wrapping of cording, hand beading,
and couching chenille thread. Background fabric manipulated
by "wrinkle pleating/crinkling" method. Embellishments of
beads and washers were added by hand. The outside rough
edges were folded under and stitched together.
I had fun creating the circles for this piece. I used crochet
skills I learned from my Grandmother Montgomery. I played with wrapping
drapery cording with all sorts of yarn and decorative threads. From my
husband's toolbox, I "borrowed" the brass washers.
Materials: Commercial
cotton fabrics, polyester batting, upholstery fabric used for the
backing, crochet threads, drapery cording, tulle, and wool and rayon
knitting yarn. Surface embellishments of brass washers from the hardware
store, wooden beads, metal beads, plastic beads, porcelain beads, glass
beads, and seashells. Metallic threads and rayon threads.
