Artist Comment/Statement: The
pre-printed fabric with the lovely geisha ladies called to me to create
a wall hanging. I wanted to create movement within the piece using
light colors and dark colors. As I struggled putting the binding on the
piece, the geisha ladies told me the piece didn't need a binding; so
I used the "pillowcase" method instead of a binding to finish the piece. The
geishas are smiling!
Techniques: Pieced
and quilted by machine. The appliqued flowers were fused on and then
embellished by machine with rayon thread. The purple border is
1/4" flat-fold fabric piping inserted into the seams.
Materials: Fabrics
used were Japanese Yukata cottons and other commercial cottons. Rayon,
cotton and monofilament/nylon threads were used for the machine quilting
and machine embroidery. Polyester batting was used.
